  3. What is a sustainable campus? A sustainable campus involves promoting work practices, services and life styles that don't compromise the lives and health of future generations.

  4. In order to unify e ff orts and strive to create a sustainable campus environment, the Sustainable Environment Action Committee was formed in Fall of 2012.

  12. , MCAD o ff ers 17 courses that focus on Currently sustainable systems and design thinking within the MASD program. Several undergraduate courses cover sustainable topics, including studio, liberal arts, and entrepreneurial studies.

  13. Energy and the Built Environment

Energy Efficiency and Renovations • Replaced all medium-based lamps to LED or compact fluorescent • Installed occupancy and motion sensors in restrooms and stairwells • Received $76,000 from Xcel and Centerpoint Energy for energy saving projects • Implemented energy e ffi cient projects which save $195,000 annually in utilities costs • Deferred maintenance of $1.3M with M/LAB renovations.

The Outdoor Campus • Lowest toxic pest management practices • 2015 planting of Student Garden Bed • Rooftop Bog • Installation of storm water runoff systems in parking lot • Since 2009, over 83 trees have been added to the landscape, increasing canopy cover and shade! • Addition of pollinator friendly plant species , with goals to continue pollinator plantings into future landscapes

  18. MCAD’s Cafeteria supports: • Support Local farms through Sysco Minnesota • Carbon Negative Tiny Footprint coffee B.Y.O. co ff ee mug discounts • • 100% Compostable dining ware, including plates, bowls, straws, co fff ee and soda cups

  19. Waste and Recycling

  20. With the help of recycling programs, composting, the free shelf, and our end of the year green clean out for student housing; MCAD diverted 47% of our waste away from landfills this past year.

  22. Upgrades to M/LAB eliminate harsh chemicals for environmentally safe photo studios R ecycling of all electronic waste and batteries responsibly . Reduction of unnecessary printing with the record keeping accoun t Papercut

  24. In 2010, Minneapolis College of Art and Design was awarded B e s t H o l i s t i Metro Transit’s c P r o g r a m s as an organization, and the I n n o v a t i o n I n c e n t i v e as an employer. MCAD was able to reduce their Single O c c u p a n c y Ve h i c l e rate from 80% to 60% between 2007 and 2010.

HOURCAR : The participants of car shares at the MCAD hub reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 49 tons in 2014! • NICE RIDE : Bike rental available on campus April- November • MetroPass: MetroPass Bus discounts for employees • GO TO College Pass • Carpool and Vanpool Incentives: Preferred and free parking for carpools registered through Metro Transit Rideshare • Shuttle Services: Shuttle Services are offered to students for groceries and supplies • Parking Policies: Reduced Single Occupancy Vehicle rate from 80%-60% • New! Electric Vehicle charging station on campus!

Green Club: Student Club organizing to establish and maintain campus garden, as well as activities for students to interact and engage with nature Bee Club: A Student club facilitated by sta ff member Diana Eicher, a club managing and promoting a bee friendly campus, including maintenance of two hives. Student Action Network: T wo MCAD students currently participate in this Multi- school network supported by Hennepin County Roots grant.
