Kirkliston Environmental Improvements Background In February 2007 the City of Edinburgh Council commissioned Ironside Farrar Ltd to develop feasibility stage proposals for public realm improvement works for Kirkliston to improve the streetscape within the town centre and provide key linkages to the surrounding developments. A range of elements were analysed to develop the draft proposals such as: Context within the local plan and proposed developments Existing streetscape conditions Pedestrian safety and circulation A series of consultation exercises were undertaken and a series of proposals were drawn up.

  4. Kirkliston Environmental Improvements Draft proposals 2007 East West These proposals were used as a basis for the March 2009 Planning Agreement upon which a £280,000 contribution is to be made by the Developer for the provision of Key Arrival Points to the East and West of Kirkliston. The contribution is available from the 1st anniversary of the Commencement of Development which is the 31st August 2011 .

Kirkliston Environmental Improvements Progress since March 2009 February 2011 •HP appointed as project manager to progress project •Background Research / Information gathering undertaken March/April 2011 •Consultant (Ironside Farrar) re-engaged to develop final stage proposals •West Neighbourhood Team engaged and project team determined May – June 2011 •Term contractor (Premier 1 Land Services) commissioned to undertake works •Site visits undertaken, utility information gathered, designs developed June – August 2011 •Local community engaged •Development consortium contacted re: proposals •Other involved parties contacted re: proposals i.e., street lighting, road safety, signals • Working towards finalised design

Kirkliston Environmental Improvements Key points of focus •Promotion of Kirkliston Town Centre / Town identity •Creation of Key Arrival Points to the East and West •Improvement of streetscape at the key arrival points •Improvement of pedestrian safety, access and movement in these areas •Introduction of high quality materials and ‘personalised palette’ without high maintenance need • Maintenance and upgrade of street furniture
