  1. Key Purposes of the Drills • Adults learn by repetition • Focus on critical tactics that degrade when stressed or multi-tasking: • Vision-up – “Scan & Plan” (Look through the corner and “peek ahead”) • Brake early or “Dump Your Speed Early” • Spacing • Smooth Inputs • Breathe & Relax • Increased awareness to help you as an instructor & officer • And the most important reason for these drills is…

  2. “A Man’s Got to Know His Limitations”

  3. • 6:30 arrival, register. Have to be Quick Overview done by 9:00 (noise ordinance) • Fit in the seat, test on arrival if unsure • Helmet & neck collar • Throttle & brake • Seats adjust, ask staff to move • Sensitive & instant feedback, especially with mistakes • 3 X 12 minute sessions, debriefs • Safety briefing • Drive hard, have fun, & learn!!

  4. Tips to Reach the Victory Podium • No trophies - you “win” by focusing on doing the right things in the cockpit and becoming a better police driving instructor so you can help fellow officers! • Don’t worry about other times – only compete with yourself! • Mistakes + Recognition = Learning • Raise awareness of your limitations • You are NOT a race car driver! Please do NOT drive like one on the street – it will catch up with you! • Police driving is more difficult & dangerous than racing, requiring tremendous discipline and self-control! SLOWER REALLY IS FASTER!
