What is JUNK? How is JUNK made? Why do we have Junk?
Junk has always existed in society, but over the last 100 years it has hugely increased in production.
Planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence. obsolescence | ˌɒ bs əˈ l ɛ s( ə )ns | noun [mass noun] the process of becoming obsolete or outdated and no longer used: computers are infamous for their rapid obsolescence | gunpowder brought about the obsolescence of many weapons.
The Phoebus cartel was made up of companies that manufacturers incandescent light bulbs, including Osram, General Electric, Associated Electrical Industries, and Philips, among others. Lasted from 1925 - 1939, only stopping then due to the outbreak of WW2.
We need new ways to think about how we produce fashion and the waste it produces.
