Jane Austen Quotes “It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do.” “There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature.” “Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”
Jane Austen Quotes “Laugh as much as you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion.” “He is a gentleman, and I am a gentleman's daughter. So far we are equal.” “If one scheme of happiness fails, human nature turns to another; if the first calculation is wrong, we make a second better: we find comfort somewhere.”
Jane Austen Sense & Sensibility Summary The story revolves around two sisters named Elinor & Marianne who start off poor. Throughout the story, the two sisters fall in love multiple times. The sister’s approaches to love were very different. One focused more on common sense, while the other focused on emotions and sensibility. This story shows that each romance comes with conflict. Elinor hid her feelings, thinking that made sense. While Marianne was overwhelmed with feelings that she did not understand. In the end, Marianne does not marry for love but for common sense, which is the opposite of what she would have wanted.
