MESSAGE #1 • Cannot see tech in isolation • ”offline” data analytics to “online” streaming data analytics • Major problems technology and centralisation Nobody really wants technology and we only know centralisation… DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY MIRKO PRESSER AARHUS UNIVERSITY 29 OCTOBER 2018 ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

MESSAGE #2 • There is an issue with centralisation and data lakes. It is basically a power struggle • How can we design multi-stakeholder platforms where power and value are not centralised and dynamic ecosystem behaviour is encouraged? There are of course the Zombies! DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY MIRKO PRESSER AARHUS UNIVERSITY 29 OCTOBER 2018 ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

The Mirai IoT Botnet Blueprint In 2016 Anna-Senpai built with Mirai a ” proof of concept ” for the most powerful DDoS IoT Botnet to date. Today (2018) Mirai is still a blueprint for advanced IoT Botnets. Using Mirai as a framework, botnet authors can quickly add in new exploits and functionally, thus dramatically decreasing the development time for botnets. The Mirai source is not limited to only DDoS DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY attacks. CHALLENGES • Firewalls can be overcome IoT Security is running into economic trade offs • Centralised structures feed attackers The “cloud” is forcing centralised service points instead of decentralised web Being unsecured and infected is the new normal. NEXT GENERATION INTERNET (A) VISION • IoT and AI are just building blocks, leveraged in the “old” architecture and business concepts. Should we break this? • Build “self - healing” IoT Infrastructures (fix weak links, kill pills) • Strengthen resilience: Blockchain, HTTP IPFS • Decentralise from the cloud towards Peer2Peer • Build stronger open source communities https://github.com/ipfs/papers/raw/master/ipfs-cap2pfs/ipfs-p2p-file-system.pdf DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY MIRKO PRESSER AARHUS UNIVERSITY 29 OCTOBER 2018 ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
