Institute for Community & Rural Health Scholarship Program Who is eligible? – West Virginia University School of Medicine students, who intend to practice in West Virginia in an area of need. Award Amount – $25,000 for 1 year commitment (Max 4 years)
Institute for Community & Rural Health Scholarship Program Obligation to Practice in West Virginia: – Students who are awarded a scholarship must sign a contract and practice full-time (32-40 hours per week) for a minimum of one year for each year of funding at an eligible site, in a Health Professions Shortage Area (HPSA). Half-time service will be considered. – Students are responsible for locating a practice site and must agree to provide medical services to West Virginia Medicaid and CHIP recipients.
Medical Student Scholarship Program Eligibility for Other Financial Incentives: – Students who are awarded a Medical Scholarship may also qualify for other financial incentives for rural practice in West Virginia. In some cases, the service obligations can be met concurrently.
Dental Student Scholarship Program Who is eligible? – Fourth year dental students at West Virginia University School of Dentistry, who intend to practice in West Virginia. Award Amount – $50,000 for a 2 yr commitment
Dental Student Scholarship Program Obligation to Practice in West Virginia: – Students who are awarded a scholarship must sign a contract and practice full-time (32-40 hours per week) for a minimum of one year at an eligible site. – Sites are to be located in a Dental Health Professional Shortage Area.
National Health Service Corps Student Scholarship Program Eligible Disciplines: Medicine, Dentistry, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), and Physician Assistant What’s Covered Tuition, fees, educational costs, and a monthly stipend for up to 4 years
National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program (LRP) Eligible Disciplines: Medicine, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM), Physician Assistant, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Professional Counselors, Health Service Psychologists, Marriage and Family Therapists What’s Covered: Up to $50,000 for a 2-year commitment to an approved NHSC site.

Health Sciences Service Program (HSSP) • Students in the final year of education for Nurse Midwifery, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Masters level Nursing • Students in the final year of a graduate program in Nursing, Dentistry or Pharmacy
Health Sciences Service Program (HSSP) Amount Available – $30,000 one-time award to 4th year medical and dental students who enter a primary care residency in WV – $15,000 for all other eligible disciplines
Health Sciences Service Program (HSSP) Service Obligation – 2 years of full-time practice or 4 years of half-time practice – Service sites include Private primary care practices in rural areas of the state and FQHCs and Rural Health Clinics located anywhere in the state – Sites that do not qualify include acute care, emergency rooms and urgent care
Health Sciences Service Program (HSSP) Obligation/Conflict – Obligation for RRCP, ESP, Tully, HSSP and medical student loan program may be served concurrently – Does not run concurrently with NHSC and other federal award programs
