Over a two (2) year period in the 2007 – 2009 school years, the Board conducted a pilot implementation of elementary school uniforms at Gu Guard rdia ian n Angels ls Cath tholic olic Elemen ementar tary y School, ol, Milton and St. t. Ga Gabri riel el Cath tholic olic Elem emen entar tary y School ol, Burlington.
In April 2009, the Board of Trustees approved Policy II-41 School Uniform Dress Code/School Dress Code for implementation beginning September 2009. Subsequent to the approval of Policy II-41, the St. Gabriel and Guardian Angels school communities conducted votes and decided to continue as uniform schools.
Policy II-41 was reviewed in May, 2010, and then again by the Policy Committee in March, 2011. No changes to the policy were recommended at that time. At the Regular Board Meeting held on February 21, 2012, the Board of Trustees established the School ol Unif iform rm Ad Hoc Committe mittee. e.
The School Uniform Ad Hoc Committee has been charged with the task of reviewing the parameters of the existing policy (II-41) in order to make recommendations regarding potential amendments to the policy, or changes to the process of implementation of school uniforms.
o The decision making authority to establish a school uniform at the elementary level is delegated to the local school community; o The majority vote required to adopt a school uniform is set at a 2/3 majority (67%); o The procedural guidelines that must be incorporated into community information meetings and community votes are established; o The guidelines and timelines are established to determine when votes can be conducted, who is eligible to cast a ballot, and how frequently a school community can re-consider the question.
To date, since the approval of Policy II- 41 in 2009, 29 29 of the Board’s 41 elementary school communities have participated in the voting process. 12 12 school communities have opted not to conduct a vote to this point.

… As a part of this policy review, we decided to hold a Public Consultation Meeting to gather the input and perspective of our parents across Halton with respect to Policy II-41. The intent is neither to make a decision tonight, nor to persuade anyone’s opinion one way or the other. Tonight is about providing parents with an opportunity to tell us what they think.
