Ramifications of the Nov 3, 2020 Federal Election Speaker: Russ Harrison, IEEE-USA's director of Government Relations Date: Thursday November 12th, 2020 Time: 7:00 PM Place: Virtual Media – Link to be sent to Registrants Register: at: https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/245393 Abstract: The 2020 national election was one for the history books. Presidential elections are always consequential, but COVID added a new wrinkle to an already unusual year. Join IEEE-USa's Director of Government Relations in Washington for a look back at the election and what it means for technology professionals. We'll look at our top issues and our prospects in next year's Congress. For example, - Both Parties have proposed significant new spending programs for technology research. Could we see legislation in 2021? - There are competing plans for classifying individuals as independent consultants. What are the implications for technology consultants? - Space policy has been a rare area of bipartisan achievement over the past decade. Will that continue, and are we still on track to get back to the moon? We'll talk about these issues and more, and then discuss our role in the coming policy debates.
