  2. ITU-D Study Groups’ Mandate • There are Study Group 1 & 2 (2014-17) in ITU-D Sector. ITU-D Study Groups are responsible for • developing Reports, Guidelines, and Recommendations based on input received from the membership. Information is gathered through surveys, contributions and case studies. Case study library is built on the ITU-D website to collect CS on line from membership. • SG1: Enabling environment for the development of telecommunications/ ICTs. Chair Person: Mrs. Roxanne MCelvane (FCC, USA) • SG2: ICT applications, cybersecurity, emergency telecommunications and climate-change adaptation. Chair Person: Dr. Ahmad Reza SHARAFAT (Iran)

  3. Questions of interest to ASP regional initiatives • Q5/1: Telecommunications/ICTs for rural and remote areas; ASP R11 LDC, SIDS/Landlocked Countries • Q5/2: Emergency telecommunications; ASP R12 • Q1/2: Building smart society; ASP R13 Benefit of new technologies. • Q2/1: Broadband access technologies; ASP R14 • Q1/1: Policy, regulatory and technical aspects for new services including NGN, m-services, OTT services and implementation of IPv6; ASP R15

  4. Case studies of interest to ASP Region USE of TV white space (input to ITU-D SG1) • Bhutan ; eHealth pilot project using TV white space technology as last mile connectivity, Malaw i ; initiative taken by Malawi to research on the TV white spaces technology since 2012, in order to improve the technology capacity, capability and livelihoods of Malawians and improve internet penetration beyond the current 6.7 % , Microsoft : Cloud-based, open-source, low-cost experimental platform for qualitative assessment of spectrum utilization (Spectrum Observatory Station), Dynam ic Spectrum Alliance : the TV WS technologies can be especially useful in emerging markets, where deployment and adoption of Internet access may be limited. It can improve spectrum utilization and connect unserved and underserved communities
