Activities Standards • MSHSAA- Missouri State High School Activities Association – Sets minimum requirements for citizenship, attendance, and academic eligibility – Schools have the right to set higher standards than MSHSAA.
MSHSAA Citizenship Statement • Must be “Credible Citizen” – Any student who commits an act for which charges may be or have been filed by law enforcement is ineligible until complete restitution is made (fines, community service, etc.) – Failure to notify school may result in loss of eligibility for 365 days.
Creditable Citizenship Standards • Creditable citizens shall be defined as those students who are not involved with weapons, alcohol, drugs, tobacco(including smokeless), stealing, vandalism, and any other act that would discredit the student or their school
Creditable Citizenship Standards • The student may be removed from the team or activity group for the remainder of the sport or activity season/semester. • Possible loss of eligibility for 365 days • Regardless of the behavior occurring in school or out of school • Alcohol and Drug related issues likely will result in mandatory counseling sessions • **Please see Rockwood Secondary Policies for full information
Citizenship CONSEQUENCES OF IN-SCHOOL DISCIPLINE - Standards of Conduct 1st Detention The student may miss the next contest, game, or performance. 2nd (and subsequent) Detentions, any number of days of In- School Suspension (ISS), or 1-2 days Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) The student could be ineligible to participate in 20% of the contests, games, or performances during that sport or activity season. 3-5 Days Out-of-School Suspensions (OSS) 1st offense - The student could be ineligible to participate in 30% of the contests games, or performances during that sport or activity season. 2nd offense - The student will be removed from the activity for the remainder of the sport or activity season/semester.
Citizenship Continued • 4. Major School Discipline (single offense, 6 or more days OSS) • 1st offense - The student will be removed from the activity for the remainder of the sport or activity season/semester. • 2nd offense - The student may be removed from the activity for up to 365 days. • Habitual offenders (3 or more suspensions regardless of offense) may lose the privilege of participating in all activities for the remainder of their high school careers. • Suspensions can carry over to the next year.
Attendance • Cannot be marked unexcused for any part of the day • All absences have to be pre-approved or a doctors note provided. – Please call 24 hours in advance to grade level- principal and activities office. – Cannot participate until a full day of school has been attended
Academic Eligibility • Freshmen are eligible upon first entry into high school. • With our schedule, students must earn 3 credits a semester or pass 6 classes.
Academic Eligibility Cont’d • Must be enrolled in 6 classes to maintain eligibility during a semester • Be aware of classes for NO CREDIT!! – Must pass 3 credits regardless of number of classes (Ex. Study Hall, Senior Incentive) – Dual Enrollment credits during school day count. College vs. H.S. Credit must be reported within 5 days of the close of the semester
