Intersection Options Share Seven Options for intersection area around Town/Bryden/Parsons and Olde Parsons/Elijah Pierce Present 7 Options (A through G) Starting Point is June Plan Some of these options can be combined for further consideration Group & Community Discussion NORTH
Intersection Options Variations Between Options Traffic Operation Turn Lanes Pedestrian Crossing Distance Green Space Gateways/Redevelopment Area (by others) NORTH
Option A: As Shown at June Public Meeting Option A Advantages: Most efficient design based on traffic flow Offers full range of turning options PARSONS AVE. Safest traffic operation Easy access to Olde Towne Quarter Trade-offs: Six lane section Less green space NORTH
Option B: Right-In/Right-Out Option B Advantages: Narrowest road footprint Maximum green space Efficient traffic operation On-street parking at south end PARSONS AVE. of Olde Parsons, even at peak Trade-offs: Lose south-bound connectivity on Parsons from Olde Towne Quarter (i.e. south-bound traffic thru Olde Towne must turn right @ Pierce) NORTH
Option C: No N-B Right Turn Lane Option C Advantages: Reduces width of Parsons by one lane to provide more green space on neighborhood side PARSONS AVE. Trade-offs: Less efficient intersection, longer south-bound queues on Olde Parsons Requires restriping of lane markings on Town Street Bridge to handle traffic – only one west- bound lane NORTH
Option D: Intersection Separation Option D Advantages: Creates larger contiguous green space that the community could redevelop Allows more extensive Elijah PARSONS AVE. Pierce streetscape Trade-offs: Takes all of ET Paul Block Does not remove south-bound through lane NORTH
Option E: No Left Turns to Town/Bryden Option E Advantages: Narrower Town/Bryden/Parsons intersection Improves pedestrian crossing across Parsons at Town/Bryden PARSONS AVE. Provides more green space on neighborhood side Trade-offs: No left turns from Parsons on Town Street or Bryden Road NORTH
Option F: Intersection Shift Option F Advantages: Creates consistent edge along west (trench) side of Parsons Maximizes green space on neighborhood side of Parsons, PARSONS AVE. allowing for more potential redevelopment space Note: Diagram also shows removing tree lawn buffer between sidewalk and road on east side of Parsons Avenue, north of Town/Bryden. This could occur on any option. NORTH
Option G: Elijah Pierce Alignment Option G Advantages: Creates consistent edge along west (trench) side BROAD STREET OAK STREET of Pierce Adds more on-street parking on Pierce Allows for entire block redevelopment Trade-offs: Removes all buildings on ET Paul Block (incl. Tire Warehouse) Removes garage along alley NORTH
Opportunity Areas Redevelopment By Others Franklin Ave. Broad St. Oak St. Lester Dr. Elijah Pierce Ave. NORTH NORTH
Example: Combine Options C, E, & F Example Combined Option Advantages: Narrows Parsons by two lanes – shorter pedestrian crossing Most green space added without eliminating south- bound Parsons movement Elijah Pierce Ave. Creates more consistent west street edge along highway Trade-offs: Prevents left turns at Town/Bryden Not optimal traffic flow NORTH
