Internet Safety There are different ways to stay safe when using the internet • Ask a computer shop to help you set parental controls on of your devices. • Have up to date anti-virus software (Norton, McAfee) • Ask your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to add ‘Content Filters’, these block some websites leics.police.uk 14

Passwords & PIN numbers • We have to use passwords or PIN numbers for some websites • Passwords can be names, or places • PIN numbers are usually 4 numbers, similar to PIN number for your cash card 1234 • Don’t write your passwords or PIN numbers down • You should never tell anyone your passwords or PIN numbers 15 leics.police.uk

  16. Emails Email is a great way to keep in touch with friends and family • Sometimes we get emails from people we don’t know or from companies trying to sell something. This is called SPAM Email • If you get an email from someone you don’t know with a link do not click on it • You might get an email from your Bank asking you for information. This can be spam and you should delete it and then call the bank to check 16 leics.police.uk

SPAM Phone Calls • You might get a telephone call from someone saying they are from your Bank • You might get a call from someone telling you there is a problem with your computer and they can fix it for you • The person might ask you for your bank details including your PIN • This are SPAM CALLS !!!!!!   18. Cyber Bullying • Lots of people use websites like Facebook and Twitter to chat with friends and share pictures • Sometimes people say nasty things or call people nasty names on these websites.
