What is HB5? • Requires each student to pass the following STAAR/EOC tests: English I , English II, Algebra I, Biology and US History. • Requires each student entering 9 th grade in 2014- 2015 and thereafter to graduate under the new graduation plans. • Requires each student entering 9 th grade in 2014- 2015 and thereafter to choose an endorsement.

  5. Hb5 requires 90% Attendance • If a student is not in attendance 90% of the time, student will receive “LOC” instead of a grad and will receive no credit until the LOC contract is completed.

  6. Steps Your Child Has Completed So Far… • Explored Career Interests • Explored Careers Through College and Career Readiness Course and Career Modules (Black Boxes) • Hb5 Program Visits to respective High School • Completed a Texas Achievement Plan (TAP)/College and Career Readiness Plan

  10. What is an Endorsement? What is an Endorsement: • An Endorsement is similar to a college major. • This is the plan that you will choose to determine your course of study in high school. • You must choose an Endorsement before you register for high school.

  16. Multidisciplinary • In order to complete the Multidisciplinary Endorsement a student must complete the SISD Foundation and the completion of 26 total credits

Next Steps • Each student will meet with their high school counselor during the ninth grade year to review their Endorsement and Texas Achievement Plan. • Students will then meet with their counselor on a yearly basis and as needed. • Although students must choose one Endorsement, students may actually earn more than one. Counselors will discuss this with students.
