Designations The Humber Estuary is internationally important for wildlife and is designated as: •A Special Area of Conservation (SAC) •A Special Protection Area (SPA) under the Habitats Regulations •Internationally important wetland under the Ramsar Convention. Together these designations form a Humber Estuary European Marine Site which is part of the Natura 2000 network of nature conservation sites designed to protect the most seriously threatened habotats and species.
