What is the OAS?
Key highlights/Opportunities • Immerse yourself in the Americas • Become a diplomat (at least act like one!) • Research and propose policy resolutions • Enhance writing and public speaking skills • Participate in Model OAS conference in DC! • Learn what college academics and life is about • Have fun!
What will you be doing as a participant? • Attending weekly classes on Thursdays from 4:30-6:00 at the University of Pennsylvania • Reading, researching, writing, and speaking about issues in the Americas • Preparing your delegation for the Model OAS simulation • Meeting OAS diplomats, scholars, Penn faculty, and others via guest lectures (both in-person and virtual)
Why participate? • Many benefits (see aforementioned) • Learn about global issues and diplomacy, especially as they pertain to the Americas • Interact with students from countries throughout the Western Hemisphere • Great opportunity for college preparation • Interaction with Penn undergrads and faculty • Participation in ongoing and future Penn events • We want you to participate! • Model OAS is a blast!
How to apply • Please fill out an application and return to us by Friday, May 18th, 2018 @ 5PM • You can submit to Catherine Bartch, Associate Director of LALS at lals@sas.upenn.edu, or bartch@upenn.edu. • You can also submit a hard copy to your school representative. • Please visit our website for more information • Any questions- feel free to contact the LALS office at 215-898-9919
