Google Hangouts is a communication platform that was launched in May 2013. It is both an Internet site and mobile application, where users with a Google account, can video chat and instant message each other. This platform is one of my favorites apps because it can preform a video chat for up to 10 users at a time, a feature not offered by Skype.
STYLEBOOK IS A VIRTUAL CLOSET MOBILE APPLICATION. THE APP LETS USERS CREATE OUTFITS ON A FREE-FORM CANVAS WITH UPLOADED IMAGES FROM PERSONAL DEVICES AND THE INTERNET. FUTURE OUTFITS CAN BE PLANNED USING THE APP CALENDAR. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE APPS BECAUSE I CAN PLAN AND CREATE OUTFITS WHEREVER I AM.
Venmo is an application owned by PayPal that services mobile payments. Users can link bank accounts, debit cards, and debit cards to transfer money to each other. I like this app because you can charge other users, making splitting bills with friends and roommates much easier.
Houseparty is a livestream video app, developed by Life On Air, and launched in 2016. The mobile application allows up to 8 users to connect via video chat for a “houseparty”. Nobody calls, everyone just joins. I love this app for talking to friends away at different schools because it allows you to choose times that are convenient for you to talk.
Amazon is an Internet-based retailer with an Internet site and mobile application. The company was launched online in 1995, and sells and delivers products to customers around the world. This is one of my favorite sites/apps because it offers Prime Membership to students at a discounted price.
Spotify is an online/mobile service that streams music, videos, and podcasts to its users. Spotify offers a free version and a paid premium version. Users can search and browse through music, make and save playlists, and share on social media. In August 2017, Spotify was the most downloaded music app in the United States (McCarthy). Spotify is one of my favorites because it offers a student discount for Premium services and allows for music to be downloaded onto devices so I don’t use up all of my internet data.
Pulse Brightspace Pulse is a mobile application for students that organizes news, grades, and due dates. It connects to classes on Brightspace and displays tests and assignments on a timeline. Unfortunately the app is only available for iOS devices. This app is in my top ten because unlike I-Learn it allows users to check off assignments once they’ve been completed.
The Fitbit app uses mobile device Bluetooth capabilities to link with activity trackers. It records and displays user data collected by the activity tracker. This includes steps, calories, and distance. This is one of my top-ten favorite apps because it’s design is easy to use and understand.
