CERTESS GOOD PRACTISE PRESENTATION - GEOCACHING - 1
GEOCACHING • Modern day treasure hunting • GPS devices in the core www.humantechnology.fi 2
TERMINOLOGY • Geocache or cache 3
TERMINOLOGY • Muggle 4
TERMINOLOGY • Logsheet (logging is made also to the Geocaching.com website) 5
TERMINOLOGY • Multi-Cache 6
WHERE ARE THOSE? 7
GEORGIA STATE PARK GEOTOUR • Originally a Geo-Challenge – Over 18000 logs in 60 caches (2,5 years in operation) – Families that are environmentally conscious – Organizing a MEGA event every year (day or more of planned activities) – 1 volunteer/cache • Turned into GeoTour 9/2012 – To get more overnight visits – To get more recognition outside Georgia – Costs $$$/year (thousands), Groundspeak is the organiztion behind Geocaching.com 8
GEOCACHING • Why Geocaching? – To get experience driven activities – A tool for visitor ” surveilance ”, a tool for research activities (to generate data) – A tool to crete events (f.ex. scavenger hunts, puzzles, etc. like Andreas mentioned in his presentation) – Recognition of the area to the families and to the youths – A tool for the ECR Manager to promote the route and to guide the visitors 9
EICR & GEOCACHING • Portal – Public/intra/extra – Geocaching promotion (indipendent or an add-on to GeoTour-page in Geocaching.com) – Process development – Business opportunities (to promote the SMEs and even bigger players) 10
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO DO • 1st phase – To collect the needs, to analyze the threads – To create the user stories how the possibilities could be used (different POVs) – To create a Geocaching pilot with one ECR (possibly a GeoTour) – To collect qualitative and quantitative data as a base for further development • 2nd phase – To create a process and platform to be offered to the ECRs, the tools that will help and not to make thinks more difficult (Penelope said that is already to be created…right ?) 11
