  3. Gee’s Bend Battery Conversion – Project drivers (Tim) – Why batteries here? (Tim) – Project timeline (Tim) – Conversion scope (Tim) GEES BEND FERRY BATTERY 4 CONVERSION

  4. A Unique Transportation Network Alabama Dept. of Transportation wanted to do something special with this unique part of their transportation network (and HMS wanted to help)! First 100% Electric Powered Car Ferry in the U.S.! From Humble Beginnings! GEES BEND BATTERY CONVERSION 3

  5. Project Drivers – Pristine area of Alabama that relies on natural resources and needs preservation – The ferry is historically significant and an important symbol of the region’s progress in Civil Rights – Culturally rich and home to the famous Gee’s Bend Quilters – The economically depressed area would benefit from public and private investment – Alabama Dept. of Transportation (ALDOT) wanted to do something special with the Ferry GEES BEND FERRY BATTERY 6 CONVERSION

  6. Batteries make sense on this route Minimum energy consumption is key! – Short route (1.45 NM) – Slow speed (5-8 kts) – 10 runs/day – 30 minute load/unload leave time to charge – Power available on both sides GEES BEND FERRY BATTERY 7 CONVERSION
