Oar labels changing!!! • What do the new numbers mean? • Oar Length / Inboard Length • The oar is 286 cm long • Example: 286 / 86 • From handle tip to collar is 86 cm • "Average" rower setting is 286 / 86 • A stronger rower will benefit from: - Longer oar - Shorter inboard • Too much effort? Try: - Shorter oar, or - Longer inboard
Scull Settings: Will be labeled… • 285/86 • 286/86 • 287/87 • 290+ (fixed length, to be updated)
Sweep: • Recommended setting for coed masters 373/115 • Use clams to "change the length" -Add 1 set of clams for a 4+ -Add 2 sets of clams for a 2- Not all GCRA sets are adjustable so best rowed with clams to "shorten" the oar, even if rowing an 8+
Sweep: Will be labeled… • A 375.5 Use clams! • B 376 Use clams! • C 376 Use clams! • E 373 • F 375.5 Use clams! • G 373 • I 373
GCRA Rigging Goals: • Span for Sculls (pin to pin) • 160 cm for 1x • 159 cm for 2x • 158 cm for 4x • Spread for Sweep (center to pin): 85 cm • Foot stretchers • Height: 18-19 cm • Angle: 40 degrees • Rigger height (seat top to oarlock): 13cm-18cm • Oarlock Pitch – 4 degrees
Boat Cleaning: • Please alternate between cleaning the tracks and cleaning the hull. • Sometimes set it upright to clean and check the insides, other times soap the hull. • Take time to check hardware and moving parts • Notice something missing or loose? Replace it, tighten it, if beyond your skill level, notify the Equipment Committee
