Eg RR listens and has neat handwriting but doesn’t get the highest grades Y 2, 3 Mainly yes They don’t doubt themselves -if they get an answer wrong they don’t say I can’t do this

  6. DO YOU HELP EACH OTHER WITH YOUR LEARNING IN CLASS? HOW? Y 4, 5, 6 I didn’t just give the answer - if you know this- you should know this 9x4 – I told her if you know 8x4 just put 4 more on. With Teaching Assistant Y 2, 3 Writing and sticking pictures I wasn’t there when teacher told us so AR explained to me When we had finished CB helped me PP helped me

  11. DOES YOUR TEACHER HELP YOU LEARN STRATEGIES THAT YOU CAN USE TO HELP YOU LEARN? HOW? Y 4, 5, 6 Use different methods/head/use fingers Grid methods but now I use quicker way English – uplevelling in Big Writing Maths – counters/unifix Number Lines Rulers / protactors / compass

  12. WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE IN CLASS? Y 4, 5, 6 Ask teacher/work out again Practise You check again Teacher helps Break it down into steps Y 2, 3 “it’s proof you are trying” You won’t get into trouble but the teacher knows you’re trying You could cross out a mistake, and write what you were supposed to do Be kind Rub it out Mistakes are good- they show you’re trying. It’s just how you’re doing.

WE HAVE ASKED CHILDREN ABOUT THEIR CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE THROUGH INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONNAIRES. • Through individual questionnaires • The teacher knows me and makes me feel welcome in my class • The teacher supports me in my learning • The teacher teaches me in a way so that I can understand my work • The teacher gives clear instructions that are easy to follow • The teacher involves me in my learning.

  15. . We have also just begun our work co- developing resources with Ian Warwick for Literacy. This is to engage everyone but also to extend the most able. We have started in Year 3 with George’s Marvellous Medicine

  16. In January we will be team teaching with Ian to help to develop teacher confidence in challenging the most able whilst still using texts that are accessible to the whole class.
