Grading Timeline  Semester 1 (S1) S1 consists of 3 marking periods, 6 weeks – M1, M2, M3 ― M1 Report Cards – Oct. 8, 2019 ― M2 Report Cards – Nov. 20, 2019 ― M3 Report Cards – Jan. 24, 2020 ― S1 FINAL EXAMS (E1) – January 15 – January 16, 2020  Semester 2 (S2) S2 consists of 3 marking periods, 6 weeks – M4, M5, M6 ― M4 Report Cards – March 11, 2020 ― M5 Report Cards – April 30, 2020 ― M6 Report Cards – June 8, 2020 (mailed home) ― S2 FINAL EXAMS (E2) – June 3 – June 4, 2020  AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH SEMESTER FINAL GRADES WILL POST ON TRANSCRIPTS AND GPA AND CLASS RANK WILL UPDATE.

  9. FLEX Lunch  FLEX is an opportunity for students to take ownership of their learning!  FLEX provides time for extra help, built in tutoring time, and to make up missing assignments during the school day.  FLEX – Everyday from 11:44 – 12:36  FLEX – Wednesdays will be CRew or Clubs

Attendance Lawful Absences • Absences caused by a student’s own illness and whose attendance in school would endanger his or her health or the health of others. • Absences due to an illness or death in the student’s immediate family. • Absences due to a recognized religious holiday of the student’s faith. • Absences due to activities that are approved in advance by the principal. Unlawful Absences • Absences of a student without the knowledge of his or her parents. • Absences of a student without acceptable cause with the knowledge of his or her parents. FA = Failure due to Attendance (more than 5 unlawful absences)

Attendance Tips • A lways know the school’s policies on absences and making up homework. • T each your child that being on time each day is important. • T alk with your child about why he or she is avoiding school. • E xplain to your child the importance of attending school every day. • N otify school personnel if your child is going to be absent for any reason. • D iscourage your child from leaving school before the end of the school day. • A rrange for your child’s personal appointments to be held after school or during breaks whenever possible. • N otify your school promptly in writing to explain why your child was absent from school. • C ontact teachers to find out what your child’s homework assignments are when he or she has been absent. • E nlist the help of a school counselor if your child’s academic problems seem to be affecting his or her attendance.

IGP/Course Selection • Be prepared for your IGP! • Read the FMSD “Program of Studies” • See course descriptions and prerequisites • Make Course Selections in your IGP • Core Classes – Teachers recommend • Elective Classes – Student chooses Catawba Ridge High School creates the Master Schedule based upon students’ course selections. These course selections will be the basis for the employment of teachers and the development of the Master Schedule. Unless it is our error or students do not meet the prerequisites, your schedule will not be changed. It is very important that you choose your courses carefully based upon graduation requirements and desired electives (including alternate electives).
