Region’s Unique Characteristics FLORIDA IS NOW THE 3 rd MOST POPULATED STATE IN THE NATION Region: Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties Population: 5,784,043 (2010 U.S. Census) With over 100 cities, this region contains: • 4 of Florida’s 67 counties • 1/3 of the state population • Over 2 million acres of Conservation Land - 38% of the Region’s total acreage • Water bodies that comprise another 40% of the acreage approximately Region includes Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach which comprise the fourth largest Urbanized Area in the nation living in the linear pale beige area depicted in the map to the right.
