Arriving at employment targets Instead of ‘best endeavours’ this is the first project specifying targets as part of the contract. Guided by the Aboriginal Economic Participation Strategy 2012-2016- one of a number of the Government’s ‘Closing the Gap’ initiatives. The project has set a new standard for real targets in employment and spend with Aboriginal business.
Targets- employment and business spend Central to the project’s Aboriginal Engagement Strategy are the following requirements, specified in the contract documentation: • 2% minimum Aboriginal employment (of total work hours) • $15 million minimum spend with Aboriginal businesses • A further $25 million minimum spend opportunities via invitations to tender We wish to leave a legacy for future WA projects to set real targets in their contracts and to continue to improve on all aspects of Aboriginal engagement.
Noongar Chamber of Commerce & Industry Gordon Cole
• The Noongar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) was officially constituted on Friday 17 May 2016 • Since December of 2015, members of the NCCI have been working closely with the PTA through the Noongar Business Working Group. • The working group was established so the NCCI, PTA and SI-NRW can collectively facilitate the involvement and participation of Whadjuk, Noongar and other Aboriginal businesses on the Project.
NCCI Objectives: Support, build and promote Noongar Businesses; Foster trade and create opportunities for Noongar Businesses by identifying and connecting Noongar Businesses with other stakeholders; Represent Noongar Business interests and lobby within Government and across industries for greater opportunities for Noongar Businesses and changes to the way people engage with Noongar Businesses;
Build capacity by providing information and knowledge to Noongar Businesses about relevant laws and best practices that businesses must have regard to in their operations, governance and employment practices; Facilitate, empower and enable Noongar Businesses to become successful and create sustainable wealth; and Promote the Noongar Business Protocols.
