  3. VSC Outcome III Creative expression and production The student will demonstrate the ability to organize knowledge and ideas for expression in the production of art Expectation A: The student will apply materials, tools, techniques and processes to solve specific art problems. Indicator 1: Creative expression-the student will experiment with media, processes, and techniques combining them with representational skills to communicate ideas and personal meaning.

  4. Introduction • Why do people write in journals? Connection to 8th grade language arts study of the diary of Anne Frank. • Why do artists use journals? • Creative journaling: view PowerPoint • Altered art PowerPoint • Their record compositions will be as if it were a page out of their personal journal.

  5. The Process: Writing in a Path • Vary width and direction • Letters should touch top and bottom of path • Vary lettering style for added emphasis.

  6. Design Criteria • Path must vary in width & direction • Path must touch edge of record at least 3 times • Letters should fill path • Graphics to go with quote • Photograph of self to blend with design

  7. Sketch main shapes, sand, gesso sanded areas

  8. Paint background areas and then add text and detail

  9. Complete details focusing on emphasis, contrast, unity. Add photo last. Mod Podge - optional.
