The 5 Big Ideas of Literacy 1. Phonological Awareness – listening to and manipulating sounds in words 2. Phonics - knowing sounds and vowel combinations- h-a-t=hat or ea meat.. igh= high 3. Fluency- reading smoothly, and with expression 4. Comprehension- Understanding, making sense, and connecting to the text 5. Vocabulary- teaching students what words mean so they have better comprehension.
