Why this project? • The data didn’t look good…
• The consumer feedback wasn’t glowing “I had a broken hand from sport, but the ED doctor thought I broke my hand in a fight. I was disgusted and left. I only found out the next day from my GP that my hand was broken.” Aboriginal Consumer
• The outcome for the consumer was that they weren’t accessing care when they needed it
What did we aim to fix? Oct 2014: 5.61% Overall DNW rate Feb 2015: 4% Overall DNW rate
What did we aim to fix? 2014: 8.7% Aboriginal DNW rate July 2015: 7% Aboriginal DNW rate July 2016: 4.2% Aboriginal DNW rate
What did we do? We listened to our consumers and addressed their concerns: → Access to Care → Uncomfortable environment for waiting → Service lacking cultural competence
