“Modern” TV 1952 decision by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to set aside 242 television channels for educational purposes. 1954 WQED is the first community-sponsored television station in the United States and the 5 th public television station. Instructional television seen as solution to: Teacher shortages Overcrowded classrooms 1970s: Much of the enthusiasm for instructional TV had been exhausted.

2011 – The Birth of MOOC’s Sebastian Thrun develops self-driving cars at CMU, then Stanford. He video tapes his Stanford introduction to AI course, offering it free online. 160,000 sign up
2012 Udacity is Born

Reality comes home In November 2013, Thrun announced that Udacity had a "lousy product" and that the service was pivoting to focus more on vocational courses for professionals and “nanodegrees”
