The VCG Workgroup The VCG Workgroup ● Development and deployment of a high- performance computing service based (to some extent) on the Globus middleware, providing: – A distributed task execution environment that employs resources from machines connected to the RNP backbone – The simplest possible access to such resources (Web) ● Basic features: – Bartering -based economy model (self-recharging tbi) ● Centered around user projects – Automatic management of certificates – Integrated monitoring (resources, security...) Challenges Challenges ● Porting applications : the hemogrid case ● Virtualization : not really a problem (more of a solution!) ● Putting it all together : workflows in Globus 4 WS, MPI applications (both manually, centrally- and self- scheduled) in Globus 4 pre-WS, ... ● Globus unfriendliness with firewall & NAT: ongoing work on developing/deploying overlays ● Resource differentiation : user-shared X grid- dedicated, project-shared X project-exclusive, ... ● Integrated certification & federation : Shibboleth L N C C
