Roles and Responsibilities for providing school places • Department for Education is responsible for policy statutory framework, and making financial contribution to local authorities’ costs in delivering places • Local Authorities have statutory duty for ensuring that there are sufficient school places locally. This is done by: – Building new schools – Permanent or fixed term expansions – Converting existing spaces for use as classrooms
The Proposal • Permanently expand the school by 1 form of entry – To make permanent the bulge class – To admit an additional 30 pupils per year from 2016 – A total of 60 places will be offered to children applying for reception places in September 2016 – The school will reach its full capacity in 2022 with 60 pupils in each year group
How the expansion will happen? • Temporary class in September 2015 • Permanent class in September 2016 • YR to Y6 – gradual growth • By 2022 the school will reach its’ full capacity with 420 pupils.
The need for places across the borough • Rise in birth rates • Growth in demand for primary school places • Changes in local migration pattern – Increased inward migration; reduced outward migration
