THE GUIDELINES
Sign-in Procedures • As always, we ask that you sign in at the office and wear a Visitor badge while in the building.
Confidentiality • Like teachers, volunteers are bound by a code of ethics to keep confidential matters within the school. • The abilities, problems, relationships and confidences of staff, students and their parents should only be discussed with the school administration or the student’s teacher.
Dress • Take your lead from the teachers and dress appropriately for the job that you are doing. • Keep in mind that you will serve as a role model for the students; therefore, we ask that your attire be neat and conservative.
Commitment and Dependability • The work that parent volunteers do is important to the overall success of the school. • Establish a schedule for volunteering. This way, those who are counting on you will be able to anticipate your assistance on a consistent basis and plan accordingly. • Simply notify the school as early as possible if you are unable to volunteer as planned. This will allow us ample time to adjust plans. The Dependables
Childcare Arrangements • We appreciate parents making other arrangements for younger siblings during their volunteer time. • The work room contains equipment that could be dangerous to children, (i.e., the hot laminator, a paper cutter, etc.). • Bringing younger children into the classroom while you are volunteering can also be disruptive to instruction.
Cell Phones • Please use cell phones only in the event of extreme emergencies. • Cell phones in the classroom, in hallways or anywhere throughout the building, even on field trips, can be disruptive and can distract volunteers from their assigned tasks. • Please set your cell phone on silent or vibrate while volunteering.
Discovery’s Sidekick Application (aka LCPS Volunteer Application) • Enhance the safety of all our students and staff. • Document needs completed prior to working with students in the classroom • Any questions or concerns, please let us know
