We received very positive feedback, in particular from ENTSO-E who are keen on developing something similar in Europe. During the webinar, you said that you would record the session. Could you provide us with the file/ link, so that we can distribute it to the participants and our Members? That would be very helpful, thank you! We will certainly get in touch again when progressing with our plans. Best regards, Theresa Theresa Schneider Senior Manager – Communication Renewables Grid Initiative Krausenstrasse 8 | 10117 Berlin | Germany W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  6. 6 Hazard/Dynamic Landscape Mapping Recent western wildfire events and interaction with the bulk transmission system raised two questions: 1. Could the EDWG data assist utilities and others with a need for landscape and habitat data during extreme events? 2. Could hazard data sets (seismic, flood, wind, fire) be useful for transmission planning and inclusion in the EDWG data viewer? but first, some show-and-tell . . . 11. 11 Nice image, but nothing in the text about actual transmission. Distribution is indeed where many outages occur, but it doesn’t matter if transmission isn’t working. W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  12. 12 Lots about protecting Portland’s famed Bull Run water supply and the “transmission” (big pipes) from the slopes of Mt. Hood to the city. No discussion about electric transmission needed to provide power to run water pumps. W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  14. 14 This is better. Dramatic pictures and a full chapter on energy including coverage of transmission risks. W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  18. 18 W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  19. 19 High Wind / Windstorm Hazard Maps ?? • no major mapping programs found • technical and possible liability issues • considered a subsidiary aspect, but in fact windstorms are the prime factor for firestorms • effects may be worsening with climate change factors enhancing windstorm severity W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  22. 22 W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  23. 23 Hazard/Dynamic Landscape Mapping Open discussion Should EDWG form a subgroup to investigate the potential for incorporating data sets relevant to transmission planning? • Geohazard (earthquake, tsunami, landslide) • Flood • Windstorm • Wildfire W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  24. 24 EDWG Data Open Season • EDWG is always ready to accept new and updated GIS data sets • Should EDWG include an open data season during Q1 2019 in our revised 3-year work plan and action items? • What steps did we take last time and what were the results? W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  25. 25 EDWG User Survey • EDWG has conducted mini-surveys in the past (Data Viewer usability, etc.) • We have discussed a more general user survey but have not proceeded • Is this the right time to commit to a survey? If so, items to address include: – Purpose, timing, sample frame, survey instrument, analysis, report-back – Oversight, development, testing, staff and contractor resources • Should EDWG form a sub-group to oversee a survey? W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L

  26. 26 2018-2019 Study Program Schedule May-Aug 2019 Nov-Dec 2018 • Review assessment • Complete Scoping priorities • Form Assessment • Consider new Teams assessments Jan-Sep 2019 Oct-Dec 2019 • Determine modeling • Finalize reporting approaches • Develop data • Complete assessments • Report on results W E C C E S T E R N L E C T R I C I T Y O O R D I N A T I N G O U N C I L
