ADD A SLIDE TITLE - 1
ELSTON COMMUNITY SPORTS HUB - DEVELOPMENT ▪ The current limitation of the Sports Field is that it is simply a Field ▪ In the past 7 years since the field was acquired its been unplayable ▪ Phase 1 work improved the drainage; Phase 2 improved the playing surface and the pitch is available to play on from September 2020. ▪ However, significant limitations remain ▪ It has no services installed; there are no changing or other facilities
ELSTON COMMUNITY SPORTS HUB - DEVELOPMENT ▪ Several concepts have been prepared; to be presented this evening ▪ The desirability of creating a Community Sports Hub which will serve Elston and neighbouring villages, is emerging ▪ The Sports Hub would be owned by the Parish Council, centred on a new purpose-built building ▪ Its facilities available ‘for hire ’ to recognised community sports associations in the area ▪ Elston currently has Elston Sports Association and Elston United FC established. There may well be others in time ▪ This facility would provide another key amenity to the village ▪ Attractive to all age groups, particularly families with young children
ELSTON COMMUNITY SPORTS HUB - DEVELOPMENT ▪ A Community Sports Hub would have the following 5 principles : ▪ To engage the local community ▪ To promote community leadership ▪ To offer a range of sporting opportunities ▪ To grow participation in sport ▪ To bring partners, groups and people together ▪ Its objectives would be: ▪ To provide a safe and welcome place for communities to participate in sport ▪ To create a centre where a range of local sports clubs can work together ▪ To help train and develop people that can deliver sport locally ▪ To encourage an integrated approach for local clubs and organisations ▪ To provide a sustainable environment for sports clubs to develop ▪ To improve access for local people to affordably engage in sport
ELSTON COMMUNITY SPORTS HUB - DEVELOPMENT ▪ There are some key elements that a sustainable village in England should ideally have: ▪ A heritage which is sustainable but can be sensitively developed over time ▪ A housing stock which contains affordable housing ▪ Good service provision including transport links, utilities ▪ A Faith Centre or Church(s) ▪ A school and preschool provision ▪ Amenities such as a shop and a pub ▪ A Village Hall and Green ▪ And a recreational area for sport and fitness
ELSTON COMMUNITY SPORTS HUB - DEVELOPMENT ▪ Elston is fortunate in many ways ▪ It is well located in the Trent Valley with good access to all urban conurbations ▪ It has all but one of the facilities and amenities listed on the previous slide ▪ It has a broad range of clubs and societies and is by no means a declining community with little to offer its residents. Quite the opposite ▪ The one area which is weak and underexploited is ‘outdoor facilities’ ▪ By developing the Sports Field we can offer excellent facilities for all age groups to participate in exercise and improve their well being and participation in sport ▪ By providing good facilities Elston can become a centre of sporting prowess and be a desirable area to live, attracting younger families, though older people would of course be included
ELSTON COMMUNITY SPORTS HUB - DEVELOPMENT ▪ Does Elston want this Development? ▪ Will it be used? ▪ Is it affordable? ▪ What will it look like? ▪ What’s the environmental impact? ▪ Just some questions for later but now over to ….. for some answers
