  3. Advanced Placement From 2002 to 2006, the National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) conducted research on the relationship between students’ participation in AP courses in high school and their later success in college—relationships that are often misunderstood or misinterpreted. The research is summarized in a report (Dougherty, Mellor, & Jian, 2006) and a book chapter (Dougherty & Mellor, 2010). This brief highlights the four major findings of this research. Results: Students who demonstrate that they are ready for college and that they can successfully complete an AP course and pass an AP exam in high school are also those who are most likely to graduate from college. (depending on teacher) ○ Click on PLTW - Wisconsin and go to Forms ● Proficiency exam at the end of the course is of no cost to the student. ● Score of 7 or above earns transcripted credit from Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). ● Most universities in the United States recognize these credits similar to AP credits. ● Most degrees require some form of electives to fulfill well roundedness. (Normally 12) where these transcripted credits fall under.

Advanced Standing and Transcription Credit- Gateway Technical College ● Advanced Standing (curriculum matching) High school curriculum is reviewed by Gateway faculty and competencies are determined to ○ be equivalent or comparable. Students complete the high school course, taught by a high school teacher at the high school. Advanced standing is considered credit in escrow , meaning upon successful completion of the course (“B” or better) AND full-time enrollment at Gateway, the student can complete a Career Prep Request for Advanced Standing form and receive those credits. ● Transcripted Credit - Download and Complete this Transcript Request Form ○ The college course is delivered at the high school including competencies, assignments, grading policies, textbooks, and software (if applicable). Students enroll in and complete a Gateway course, taught by their WTCS-certified high school teacher. College credit is awarded when the student successfully completes the course and the high school teacher enters the course grades in webadvisor. In addition to their high school transcript, students have a transcript at Gateway that can be used at Gateway or transferred to other colleges & universities.
