Educate Together and NICIE Common origins in activist parents and teachers in the 1970s Share common motivations to provide education in which children from different backgrounds learn to live together Evolved different models to meet differing social environments in the two jurisdictions in Ireland Kept in touch and supported each other over the years Now developing a more structured relationship and greater cooperation

Educate Together Independent NGO - Educational Charity Bound by the Educate Together Charter Commits the organisation to make Educate Together model schools available to all Irish parents and defines the model to be: • Equality of access and esteem to children irrespective of their social, cultural or religious background • Co-educational and addressing gender and other stereotyping in schools • Learner-centred in teaching and learning • Participative governance maximising responsibility and participation by pupils, staff, parents and the community.
