WIC WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) is a federally funded nutrition program WIC provides the following at no cost: healthy foods nutrition education and counseling breastfeeding support and referrals for health care and community services 10
WIC FY 2016 WIC services are provided in all 67 counties at over 220 clinic sites A monthly average of 482,342 women, infants and children receive WIC services 11
CHILD CARE FOOD PROGRAM • Provides access to a variety of nutritious foods • Reimburses child care organizations for nutritious meals and snacks • Improves health and nutritional status of children in child care settings • Provides training on promoting healthy habits and feeding practices for infants and children • Assists child care facilities to implement best practices to reduce obesity risk 12

SARASOTA In Sarasota County, the Department of Health is a proud partner with All Faiths Food Bank along with Sarasota County Human Services, Sarasota County Area Transit (SCAT), Sarasota County Libraries, UF/IFAS and many others 14
SARASOTA • DOH-Sarasota receives All Faiths quarterly distribution calendar, linking more than 26,000 clients and patients with support and emergency food • DOH-Sarasota sites provide WIC assistance to more than 5,000 women and children. • DOH-Sarasota and All Faiths serve as partners in the Hope Kids Community back to school events • DOH-Sarasota works in partnership with Sarasota County School nurses and Food and Nutrition Services to assure no child who needs a meal is ever turned away • More than 120 backpacks are distributed each month through DOH-Sarasota, provided at the Sally & Sam Shapiro Children and Babies Medical Center 15
IMPORTANCE OF PARTNERSHIPS Partnerships can allow for more successful initiatives and interventions. In response to the Zika Virus, the department has partnered with Feeding America to distribute more than 500,000 units of insect repellent. 16
