  2. Choreographer « Donkey Skin has always fascinated me. The most sublime conceals the most obscure. An intriguing and manipulative court, an easily consolable widower, a young lady not so ingenuous as it seems under her beautiful dresses, a very ambiguous Prince Charming, and, of course, a donkey that ‘was never leaving any mess, and instead, beautiful écus in the sun’. Perrault gives life to timeless characters. This tale is some sort of hidden comedy about power, sex and whims. Donkey Skin enables every epoch, every combination. It is an oneiric satire which has no wrinkle.» Emilio Calcagno Of Italian origins, Emilio Calcagno joined Ballet Preljocaj in 1995. With Angelin Preljocaj’s company he has had the opportunity to dance on all the most prestigious stages of the world (Joyce Center in New York, Sidney Opera Theatre, Tel Aviv, etc.). Later he was assigned to the pedagogic direction of the D.A.N.C.E. project, with Aix-en-Provence’s choreographic centre director and with Frédéric Flamand, William Forsythe and Wayne Mac Gregor. Emilio worked also on several big events (Hermes, Audi Awards, etc.). His own dance company, Compagnie ECO, was founded in 2006 and it immediately started a residency at the Théâtre de la Faiencerie – Théâtre de Creil. Interested in the contamination of different artistic disciplines, Emilio develops the BDanse project (Comète Comix, Peter Pan and the installation Archipel), a series of performances going from the arts to the comics world. Furthermore, Emilio is regularly invited by several institutions (Scenario Pubblico – Catania, CNSM – Lyon, National Dance Centre - Paris, etc.) as a teacher, choreo- grapher or as a member of jury. In 2009 he has created the choreography for a film with Jonathan Glazer and Denis Lavant at Palazzo Farnese in Rome. In 2012, he created “Gourmandises”, for the Rousseau’s 2012 year and “Donkeyskin” at the Théâtre National de Chaillot last november. dossier de diffusion Peau d’âne / www.compagnie-eco.com / page 1

  3. Cast «Thanks to photography, lighting and colours, Donkey Skin will have a cinema dimension, while exceeding the legacy of Jacques Demy. 4. «Though the glamorous and shining side of this fairy tale has indeed always fascinated me, I decided to work on the reverse side of elegances with the 12 dancers I’ve selected. I like the idea of highlighting, from the childhood memories everyone has of this tale, all the insolence of Perrault’s characters. In adver- tisement, he has worked for Dior and Carte Noire, while in the events’ field he has collaborated with the group LVMH/Galliano. Orchestre de Picardie Established in 1985, Orchestre de Picardie is a one-of-a-kind French symphonic ensemble. Since 2011, its artistic and music director is Arie van Beek. With its 37-musician ‘Mannheim’ orchestra, it carries out a public service mission with the performance, every year, of over one hundred concerts and of some fifty additional activities. 6. «Seductive, violent, elegant and surprising bodies will set this fairy tale in motion. I want to surprise the spectators and refresh their views on a fairy tale they think they know but which they can actually re-discover again and again. Like a crafts- man, I want the dance to reveal the body and soul of each character so as to find their colour, their temper and their physicality. « «I offset places and their symbols: could Donkey Skin ’s farm become a cabinet of curiosities? Could the Prince be charmed by the monstrous and the marvellous? Could the ball become a speed-dating session? I decided to tackle the complexity of this fairy tale, its dual interpretations, in a contemporary and unreal environment which is an expression of the off-beat marvellous. « - Emilio Calcagno Emilio Calcagno dossier de diffusion Peau d’âne / www.compagnie-eco.com / page 6
