Coming Together CURRENT STATUS Framework for Enhancing 1 st Annual Education Liaison Meeting Student Learning • The District has submitted its Return to School Plan and Staff and Student Safety Plan, which have been approved by the Ministry of Education. • The Plans were developed to meet all the Guidelines from the Provincial Health Office and the Ministry of Education. • The Plans were reviewed by Interior Health, Provincial Health and the Ministry of Education. 2

Coming Together CURRENT STATUS - FINANCIAL Framework for Enhancing 1 st Annual Education Liaison Meeting Student Learning Financial Considerations The District is experiencing financial pressures due to: • a decrease in international student enrolment because of Federal decisions • significant increased costs due to providing safe learning environments and enhanced Program options – eSchoolBC. New Revenue: On September 3 rd the Provincial Government • announced $4.1M for the first round of Federal Funding . • The District has received some Provincial funding and flexibility that support the District’s Plans including $1.7M for cleaning and safety measures. 4

Coming Together RESTART PLAN Framework for Enhancing 1 st Annual Education Liaison Meeting Student Learning Student Programming Options Parents have 3 options to choose for their student for the 2020/21 school year: 1. In-Person Instruction ( follow regular registration protocols) 2. Distance Learning ( register with eSchoolBC) 3. Home Education ( register with your home school) Due to staffing and facility limitations, students must complete the school year in the program chosen unless they are medically compromised. Spots in schools will be held only for students that are medically compromised. Other students will be required to apply as a new student per regular registration policy. Speak with your Principal. 9

Coming Together ELEMENTARY OPTIONS FOR K-5 Framework for Enhancing 1 st Annual Education Liaison Meeting Student Learning K-5 Synchronous This program will serve students from within Central Okanagan Public Schools only. Learning groups will be organized in similar grade groups and learning will focus primarily on literacy and numeracy. Weekly learning activities will include a variety of self-paced activities, scheduled (synchronous) online lessons and class meetings and student choice learning through a variety of online tools such Zoom, Google Classroom etc.). Orientations begin the week of Monday, September 14, 2020. 13

Coming Together MIDDLE SCHOOL OPTIONS FOR 6-9 Framework for Enhancing 1 st Annual Education Liaison Meeting Student Learning 6-9 Synchronous Scheduled, Daily Virtual Classes Students will attend virtual classes 4 days per week. Classes include 4 core academics (English, Social Studies, Math and Science) with additional cross-curricular enrichment opportunities. Learning groups will be organized in similar grade groups. Individual and/or small group support available in person and virtually. Optional in-person field studies may be offered to support a greater sense of community. Orientations begin the week of Monday, September 14, 2020. 14

Coming Together FAQs Framework for Enhancing 1 st Annual Education Liaison Meeting Student Learning Can the Board preserve a family's enrollment seat(s) in their current school if the family elects to either distance learn or home school due to extenuating circumstances within their family? • It is proposed that parents selecting eSchoolBC will be able to reapply to their school or program if space is available with the priority of fourth. • At this time, a student's place in their school will be held only when a student’s documented medical condition prevents their attendance for an extended period. • The Board of Education is considering a motion tonight to create a transitional period where families can keep their spot in a program until November 13, 2020. After that date, parents need to select one of the three options. 16

Following Public Health Orders • 50-person maximum does not apply to school settings 2. Contact Tracing • Maintaining class lists, visitor sign- in, seating plans allow for efficient contact tracing by Public Health 3. Learning Groups • Schools are organized into Learning Groups • District Learning Groups are smaller than the Provincial requirements • 60 elementary and middle school students 17 • 120 secondary school students
