Two Ways to Make Elective Requests ( Window open Jan. 29-Feb. 8, 2019) Online (Required for HMS, DMS, CLCS students) 1.  Review the list of available electives  Students and parents discuss elective choices  Login to your Infinite Campus Student account with your school counselor and complete the Freshman Elective Request Form. On paper (if accommodation is needed for 504/IEP or 1. parochial, private, or homeschool)  Review the list of electives  Discuss with your parents

  10. High School Pathway Programs Incoming freshmen have opportunity to request placement in 1. various pathway programs across the three high schools. Visit http://www.d300.org/pathways for program descriptions and 2. for an application (with transfer request form if applicable) that is due by March 1, 2019 for consideration.

  11. What are the existing Pathway Programs? D300’s Pathways to College and Career are programs designed to prepare students for success in a variety of careers following high school. Pathways include a sequence of recommended courses in different career fields, and many of the Pathways include opportunities for internships with local businesses. Many of the Pathways also offer dual-credit course opportunities through our partnership with Elgin Community College and/or industry certification.

  13. Transfer Students A limited number of seats (available on first-come, first serve basis) will be available in each pathway program for transfer students. If you are interested to apply for a transfer in order to enroll in pathway courses at another high school, the Intra-District Transfer Form should be printed out, completed, and submitted to the district office along with the application form by March 1. www.d300.org/pathways

  14. Pathways Transportation For the 2019-2020 school year, hub-based transportation will be provided for students attending a building other than their base building. Busses will pick up and drop off at your zoned middle school; parents will be responsible for transporting students between home and the zoned middle school. More information will be provided after all intra-district transfer forms are processed in March. www.d300.org/pathways

  17. Blended Options for Freshmen Blended learning is an opportunity for students to learn three days face to face in their classroom and two days online utilizing Haiku for online learning. The term Blended Learning as defined by the Clayton Christensen Institute is a formal education program in which a student learns: 1) At least in part through online learning, with some element of student control over time, place, path and/or pace: 2) At least in part in a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home; 3) And the modalities along each student’s learning path within a course or subject are connected to provide an integrated learning experience Source: http://www.christenseninstitute.org/blended-learning-definitions-and-models/

  18. Blended Options for Freshmen AP Human Geography, Algebra 1B and English 9 are offered in a ● blended format for Freshman for the 19/20 school year. Students will be in class for the first three weeks of school in order to ● learn the processes and procedures for blended learning. Freshman classes will not be allowed to leave the building during their ● blended days (ie online learning days). These days they will be in the Commons, Media Center, or the Bridge . If a student’s grade drops below a 70 (C -) they are required to be in ● their blended class with their teacher every day. At any time during their online days, students may go to their class to ● work directly with their teacher.   19.  We have a club or sport for everyone!  Visit the commons to obtain information, meet sponsors, and ask questions!  Colleges love to see students involved in extracurriculars!  Being involved in extracurriculars helps students make friends, feel connected to the school, and enhances their classroom learning

  20. Next steps By February 8: Make elective requests (online via the student’s Infinite Campus Portal). Week of February 12: High school counselors will visit D300 middle schools and feeder parochial, private, and charter schools during the day to review elective requests with each student. February 20: Students will receive a copy of their core course recommendations and elective course requests. ALL FORMS DUE BY Students bring the parent-signed FEBRUARY 26, 2019 recommendation and request form to middle school counselor. Parents submit (as needed) level change requests to appropriate high school division head(s) --form located here: http://www.d300.org/freshmen Please note: Students will not receive a copy of the finalized schedule until early August.
