Deeper Learning Presentation shared with Wellsprings GB and visiting teachers from TLP Cohort schools
Deeper Learning needs to be: - enjoyable - context-based - assessed thoroughly to identify gaps - accessible to all levels of ability
Whole school- activity days
A range of learner styles catered for
Wow days and cross-curricular links
Make what it takes to be successful clear to the children
Links to the community
Applied learning- different opportunities
Applied learning- family learning
Rich, broad curriculum
The teacher often will: - work with a focus group to set off a group on an activity - assess the activity mid-session to decide if there are opportunities to ‘deepen’ or stretch learning - differentiate through the use of different interpretations of an objective or task - ‘block’ learning to ensure a unit is covered sufficiently 11
We use our TAs to: - pre-learn with children - consolidate learning through extension tasks - direct classroom management while the teacher works with a focus group - assesses learning to support judgements made by the teacher mid-session and post-session 12
Children: - have a ‘menu’ option of bronze, silver and gold (and sometimes platinum!) to choose from in activities; they are often ‘guided’ to make suitable choices - complete gold/silver tasks , which are often more ‘applied’ activities to deepen learning are given links between subjects to provide broader ‘contexts’ - to learning- eg GPS/Phonics, maths, science skills applied to non- ‘core’ subjects - Have more time to complete tasks- built into and beyond the session 13
