Grades and Credit • “D” grades = 5 credits – Credit for high school graduation only! – “D” grades don’t count for college admission. – Not given extra GPA point for honors/AP • “F” grades = 0 credits – If you fail a required graduation course you MUST make it up in summer school or the next year. Students are responsible for registering for summer school classes!

Where are you going? • Review the graduation checklist and your transcript • Consider UC/CSU “a - g” requirements • Your plan should be flexible and modified each year • How do you plan to “fit it all in”? • Review information on the CV counseling website
The 4 year plan is a guide to help choose and track courses. Use it as a graduation/UC/CSU checklist . It is available on the CVHS website or in the Counseling Office.

Complete the Time Management Tracker Use the estimated times on the course list to calculate the homework hours for the 2020-21 courses you choose. Focus on BALANCE: School Extra-curricular Daily Living Total hours = 168
Complete the Grade Level Registration Form All students take 6 classes each semester. (Some Seniors needing <50 credits may opt for 5 classes.) Complete each subject section on your planning sheet for next year. NOTE: If you are planning to take a class in Summer School, indicate intent to enroll on your Registration sheet and complete summer forms when available!

Completing the Registration Form • Answer the questions at the top of the form about post high school goals, career/major interests, Career Education (CTE) pathways, and GCC Dual Enrollment/Jump Start • If you want to take a “0” period class, the maximum number of classes would still = 6. – (Band/Drill Team, possible Spanish 3-4?)
English • Circle the desired English and/or indicate ELD level. • English 9 Advanced is only recommended for students with strong As in English 8 or As/Bs in Adv English 8 • Students/Parents must submit a waiver if they do not meet the above criteria. • Counselors will confirm your choices and eligibility before you are placed in the class.
Math CV requires all students to be enrolled in math for all 4 years. • Students passing Math 8 should circle Integrated Math I. • Students failing Math 8 should circle Integrated Math I and consider requesting Math Intervention as an elective. *Students passing Integrated Math I should circle Integrated Math II. ► Students in Int Math I who wish to accelerate to Int. Math II/III Accelerated may circle the II/III Acc class. Placement will be pending the Math Diagnostic Test and final grades • Students will need to submit a Waiver if they do not have As in both semesters of Integrated I or do not score high enough on the Diagnostic Test • Please refer to the GUSD Math Placement guidelines on the CV website.

9 th Grade: Health/Social Science • In the 9 th grade Health/Social Science section, circle Health and Human Geography. -Human geography is not a graduation requirement. If you take health during the summer, both Health and Human Geography will be replaced with a year-long elective. • If you plan on taking Health during summer, check the box for “summer” and indicate your preferred alternate. • Complete Summer registration forms in March. • Health and Human Geography will be preloaded on the portal. • Counselors will replace Health and Human Geography with an alternate course AFTER summer school enrollment is confirmed.
PE: 9 th • Circle Air Force ROTC, Band, Beg Dance, Drill Team, Physical Education, or PE-Yoga • Students interested in joining Band should register on www.falconmusic.org Band Camp is Aug 3 rd -14 th • All Sports, Int/Adv Dance, and Pep Squad have “try - outs”. If you plan to try out, please check the bulletin for dates and more information. • Register for both semesters of your PE choice in the student portal. Science CV requires all students to be enrolled in science for 3 years. 9 th grade: Circle Living Earth • If you successfully complete Biology this summer, the counselors will adjust your schedule to Chemistry in the Earth System in July. • GUSD graduation requirements for the Class of 2024 and beyond include 30 credits of science. Students must pass Living Earth, Chemistry in the Earth System, and Physics of the Universe before enrolling in any advanced or AP science courses.

CTE Classes and Pathways Career Technical Education https://www.gusd.net/cte • Designed to give practical, hands-on experience in the work place. • CV Pathways include: Graphic Communications, AF ROTC, Cinematography, Computer Science, Entertainment Tech & Live Production, Sports Medicine, and the Medical Academy • Consider including a CTE Pathway in your 4 year plan. • CTE classes offered after school or on weekends include Water Safety, Cosmetology, and Game Design. – Sign up for extra CTE classes in the fall with your counselor. – See Ms. Tuason regarding Biotechnology .
