Status of ITS Developments in Bhutan Pilot Smart Card: Pilot smart card system on one Bus on Dechencholing route in 2016.
Status of ITS Developments in Bhutan CCTV inside city buses: • A pilot project • The main purpose was to strengthen safety inside the bus.
Status of ITS Developments in Bhutan Pilot Bus Information System (BIS): - 10 buses are equipped with On- Board Bus Equipment (OBE) - 2 Bus Information Terminal (BIT) installed on one of the routes
Status of ITS Developments in Bhutan Online bus and taxi booking systems/Apps YANA taxi app- availing taxi services online. Oie Taxi App- availing Druk Ride- Online Bus ticket taxi services online booking and taxi booking Mobile App - for calculating taxi fares based on routes selected.
Status of ITS Developments in Bhutan Safe City initiatives (RBP): - Installation of CCTV Cameras in major cities - To regulate systematic traffic management and address the growing traffic problems in the city
Challenges and Issues - Pilot smart card: Piloting on only one and difficult to implement full- fledged cashless system. Nu. 7.5 m secured from RGoB for upscaling the initiatives can only cover 50% the cost for implementing in the existing fleets. - Installed CCTV inside Buses: High data consumption as it uses 4G (SIM Card data based transmission) and live control is very expensive. Not very effective as there is no central control unit set up. - Bus Information System (BIS)- The problem faced by operations while allocating the bus on route due to the limited number buses with OBE. - Lack of funding to upscale the pilot ITS initiatives
