Palo Alto Test Bed / RSU • Established in 2005 • Caltrans, PATH and MTC Partnership • Sixteen existing intersections Broadcasting SPaT, MAP, RTCM and RSM Messages Accepts BSM and Service Request Message (SRM) SCMS implementation in progress • Fifteen additional intersections are planned 3
Palo Alto Test Bed / RSU • With 31 consecutive intersections, the total length of the test-bed will be about 7 miles long • Applications under testing Phase • Red Light Violation Warning over Cellular • Conditional TSP for VTA (DSRC based) • Transit Eco Approach and Departure (DSRC based) • Reduced Speed Zone and Lane Closure Warning (DSRC based) 4
San Diego Area / RSU • The San Diego AV Proving Ground Collaboration between SANDAG, Caltrans and City of Chula Vista Consists of: I-15 Express Lanes SR 125 City of Chula Vista 5
San Diego Area / RSU • 25 RSU are planned to be installed by June 2020 on 1-15. • 10 OBUs are planned to be installed on Caltrans maintenance vehicles. • Planned Applications V2X Queue Warning V2X Expanded CMS Message 6
Orange County Area / RSU • Caltrans District 12 120 RSUs are in design stage. All CCTV locations on the I- 5, SR57 and SR91 will be installed with 120 RSUs. 52 Additional RSUs will be installed on various intersections in district 12. Completion is Sep-Oct 2020 Applications are in initial stages. BSM acceptance is planned. 7
OBU Efforts / Transit Signal Priority (TSP) • Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and Caltrans joint venture • Buses on Route 22 will be equipped with OBUs that will send the SRM to RSU • TSP is conditional. The RSU will give priority based on predefined policy. 8
OBU Efforts / Bus on Shoulder • Implementation in progress on SR-94 west of highway 805. • Sand Diego Metro buses will be equipped with OBUs to communicate with the On-Ramp RSU to hold the traffic while the bus passes the conflict zone. • OBUs have been installed on the busses. • RSU design is complete. • Ramp controller software upgrade is in process. • The system will work only at the commute times or if the traffic on the GP lanes is running below the 35 MPH. 9
