East Calgary: Geographical Distribution and Demographics • 12 Communities in East Calgary • 30% with high school diploma or equivalent (Calgary at 25%) • 19% low income households (Calgary at 11%) • $27, 288 Median income (Calgary at $37,697) • Lowest voter turnout (2013 municipal election and the 2015 provincial election) • 36% are visible minorities (Calgary at 30%) • 5 domains of development are at 30% or more (higher than city) Map Courtesy of 12CSI
Challenges in the Community • Language barriers • Cultural barriers (multicultural community) • High rate of immigrant families (English is a second language) • Low education • Income barriers • Time commitment
