3 2 Use of technology in the EL & Lit classroom: Newsela App - Differentiated instruction for reading comprehension Newsela extracts articles from major news outlets and rewrites each article at different levels for readers. Students can choose a text at a level that would be readable for them as well as provide them an appropriate level of academic challenge . Teachers can assist students on which levels students should read according to their proficiency and challenge them to move up to the next level when they are ready. Annotation Tools Newsela allows readers to annotate, highlight in different colours and save the articles. Specific reading tasks like identifying topic sentences and main ideas, and details in paragraphs can be easily done using this feature, which increases student engagement.
Expanding your creativity in the EL classroom 3 2 Artful Storytelling Students worked in pairs to write a story. They then used the online platform Storybird to create their own digital picture book by selecting relevant pictures which best describe their stories!
