www.bryair.com Cold Storage Systems Cold storages can be divided into two main categories: Passive Stores Built for storage of perishable goods for medium to long term period. Typical Application Area - storage of fresh fruits and vegetables. Active Stores Refrigerated warehouses required for dynamic storage applications. Frequent movements of products on daily/ regular basis. Various temperature zones are created within the same warehouse for storing of different products requiring different temperatures. Typical Application Area – Ice Cream, Frozen food etc.
www.bryair.com Current Situation in India Passive Cold Stores India has many passive cold storages for fresh fruits & vegetables as part of cold chain. To further support distribution of fresh fruits and vegetables these capacities are being created all across India. At present no sorbtion technologies are being applied in these cold stores. Active Cold Stores At present very little active cold storage capacity exist in India. Limited only for special products and in metros. With the distribution of various food products requiring cold storage facilities, this capacity will increase.
www.bryair.com Humidity Problems in Cold Stores
www.bryair.com Typical Problems in Active Cold Storage Wet floors and ice build up on walls, floors and conveyors. Ice build up on evaporator coils. Frost build up near the loading docks. FOG in the Loading Dock. Moisture absorption by cardboard cartoons etc which causes cartons soften and sag making them unstable and hazardous to workers as well as un-markable. Extra cost for defrosting and frosting.
