  1. Cloud Computing Lessons Learned & Technical Perspective michal.furmankiewicz@chmurowisko.pl https://www.linkedin.com/in/mifurm/ @mifurm

  2. Michał Furmankiewicz  Cloud Architect for last 7 years  CEO & co-owner of Chmurowisko / Cloud State  Before that 11 years with Microsoft, working mostly with Enterprise customers and Financial Markets  Active Community member of Cloudyna 2020 , Cloud Natvie Warsaw 2020 , Microsoft Azure User Group Poland and more, recognized with Microsoft MVP (Community Award)

  3. Key topics  Overview and brief history – what is the cloud computing all about?  Business motivations  Lessons Learned  How to start with cloud in your organization?  Summary and Q&A

  4. history of cloud evolution

  5. AWS Commercial launch Serverless concept born New services are announced, EC2 Docker announced in 2013 are available – game changer (Containers are getting traction) Windows Azure -> Microsoft Azure GCP announce new services in GA 2003 2006 2008 2014 2015 2020 First launch of Business Launch Windows Azure / Cloud is ready to Kubernetes – VMWare, SAP , Oracle AWS of AWS Google App really take off containers and other services in Cloud, over 150+ of Engine orchestrator is available services, huge RedDog -> Windows number of partners 3 services are Azure AWS – first phase of available migrations Kubernetes alpha Google and Microsoft announced believes only in PaaS Cloud Native concepts are offering reborn

  10. Cloud offerings are different!

  11. Project perspective

  12. history of evolution – first challengers?

  13. history of evolution – what motivated customers? Data Center Step forward Consolidation New services & High Level of Standards type of business

  14. Automate everything! This is how server in cloud looks like!

  15. Pets&Cattle Service Model Services and supportability model is different Hyperscale is different. Either you automate or you lose.

  16. Building SaaS service is a different challange! Failure in cloud is new normal. Failure is expected and we need to prepare ourselves for that.

  17. What we have learned? LANDING Cost Re- “OPERATION AUTOMATION & ZONE and Management INFRASTRUCTUR Architecture S” E AS CODE ADOPTION and FinOps PLAN Strategy

  18. But the second wave of adoption is different

  19. What is shaping the future right now? Data are growing, Complexity of # of devices we are still week software is in analysing them growing Demand for “Languages” and Services and software is architectures are products are more growing and will evolving advanced not stop Low level code apps are gaining traction

  20. Why business should be interested? Automation of Speed, more IoT/OT Solutions, Big infrastructure to limit investments in Data Solutions, required people and development than Machine Learning / AI resources, outsource support Solutions problems Startups and services IT Costs Structure Cloud Native and re- cooperation (SaaS change and possible architecture for Marketplace) reduction Legacy Systems It happens that cloud is enabling us to build totally new concepts and solutions!

  21. Transforming while performing First step to migrate and automate 2 Cloud Enabled 4 & Automation 1 Cloud Native Partners and Onpremises Company other company companies Cloud Optimized / Hybrid Cloud-Centric Company with data Solution mostly available in Cloud 3 System re-architecture, enterprise architecture redesigned

  22. history of evolution – Business Transformation

  23. Remember that? In 2020 the goal of Cloud offering is redefined!

  24. What is the motivation right now? DC Consolidation. Culture shift – from Yes, but not as the IT&Operations to first goal. Not so Products and attractive. Innovation Digital Architectural transformation or change in IT area, rather business R&D projects, new change & flexibility. types of solution

  25. But this is just the day one!

  26. Future of Cloud Development Breath of services, but speed may be a bit slower Serverless and Managed. Hybrid and edge approach with vertical solutions coming. Cloud Vendors == Security Vendors Depth of services, bringing more maturity, operations, security with quality and according to local restrictions

  27. How to start with Cloud in your own Company?

  28. How to start this complex journey? 1.1 Business and 1.2 Company Phase I Technology – 1.3 Business Case architecture motivation to start and KPI’s First Step - Strategy analysis cloud project. Phase II 2.2 Cloud Standards 2.3 Operational Second step – Tactics & 2.1 Org. Structure and migration Process strategy Organization Phase III 3.1 Governance & 3.2 Security Trainings and Education Foundation Strategy Cloud Foundation & Governance Phase IV Migration process

  29. Migration Scenarios  Rehost  Replatform  Repurchase  Rearchitect / Refactor  Retain  Retire

  30. Migration value  Rehost  Replatform Number of Apps  Repurchase  Rearchitect / Refactor  Retain Value from migration  Retire process  New apps

  31. „ Landing Zone” & „Cloud Foundation” 1 Define set of principles of target architecture 2 Identity for users & systems 3 Communication & networking 4 Security and Compliance 5 Management and Cost Control 6 Deployment of infrastructure, services and systems 7 Roadmap of implementation

  32. Before we are done …  Cloud is a very broad and mature offering today  It’s not a magic pill – not every solution should work in the cloud. On the other hand – loads of projects are delivered in the cloud and from the cloud. It’s a matter of architecture.  It’s a technology and business driven, cultural shift – not only IT project anymore. It’s a journey, can be long one! Need the whole company onboard to make it a success.  This concept will evolve and will change, will impact on-premises solution in the long run and the hardware market definitely!
