What is PBSIS? • Positive Behavior Supports in Schools • PBSIS is a tiered intervention framework • Since 2003, NJ PBSIS has trained over 199 schools.
Elements of PBSIS • Positively stated rules for various locations within the school • Common, consistent language used by staff and students • Student and staff incentives • Tier 2 interventions to address students with more needs (I&RS, Check-In/Check-Out, etc.)
Implementation Process • Creation of Universal Intervention Team (UIT) • Surveys to students and staff • Creation of school wide expectations • Planning of “kickoff” activities
