Inspiration: Clayton Bailey
Clayton Bailey (b. 1939) is one of the most influential sculptors in clay leading the artistic movement called Funk.
He is part inventor and part mad scientist, creating works that are filled with humor and imagination.
His most notable work is his World of Wonders Museum (1975-1998), a full- scale theatrical installation of ceramic oddities and scrap metal robots.
You can see his work displayed in the part-museum, part-roadside attraction Bailey Art Museum in Crockett, CA.

Vocabulary: • Pinch method = forming clay into a bowl shape by pinching the clay between your thumb and fingers.
Project Requirement #1: Body of teapot is created by attaching two pinch pots together.
Project Requirement #2: Must be functional...
a) Has a working nose spout.
b) Has a lid with a pull that sits snuggly in the teapot.
c) Has a firmly attached handle that can support the weight of the teapot.
Project Requirement #4: Teapot has other 3-D facial features – eyes, mouth, ears, etc.
Extra Challenge Option: Raise your teapot up by giving it legs and/or feet. You can also make a coordinating face teacup to go with your teapot.
Day 1: Sketch 8 ideas for your nose teapot. Use the features packet as a reference.
Day 2: • First, practice making a pinch pot. Uniform thickness of ¼” and about 4”-5” in diameter. • Then, make 2 identical pinch pots for the body of your teapot.
