  19. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Audiologists and Speech- Language Therapists can work at: • Schools and schools for learners with special needs • Hospitals and clinics • Private practice • Community, government, military • Academic: teaching, clinical, research • Medico-legal cases 19

  20. TEAM WORK Both Audiologists and Speech-Language Therapists work together in teams with: • Parents and /or significant others • Teachers • Occupational Therapists • Physiotherapists • Psychologists • Social Workers • Ear-Nose-Throat specialists • Neurologists • Paediatricians 20

Why study at the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, UP? • Revised curriculum allows separate training in either Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology allowing for more in-depth and hands-on training. • The Department has specialist clinics including the Pretoria Cochlear implant unit, Clinic for High Risk Babies (CHRIB), Voice clinic, Hearing aid Clinic, Advanced & Specialized Neuro-Otologic Test Centre (only one in Africa) with services to the public and communities. 21

  26. REQUIREMENTS • Grade 12 • Admission Point Score of 32 + • English or additional language at level 5 (60-69%) • Mathematics at level 5 (60% - 69%) • Biology / Life science is strongly recommended 26

FACULTY REGULATIONS • After the selection process - all selected candidates must take note that this is provisionally dependant on the outcomes of the final matriculation exams. • An APS score of no lower than 32 is required to register for the course (after the Matriculation Exams) • The requirements for Mathematics, English / Afrikaans and the additional language may not be lower than the requirements set (previous slide). 27

  28. SELECTION PROCEDURES • Applications close 30 June of each year • Selection is based on academic achievement (APS score, languages, maths) • Provisionally admitted: letter/sms from student administration / announcement on student portal 28

  31. SELECTION PROCEDURES • Dean (Prof Vasu Reddy) and Deputy Dean (Prof Sandy Africa) from Faculty of Humanities gives final confirmation of selection • Letter of acceptance from student admin: before 31 August 31
